Shri Guru Ram Das Ji

Before Jyoti Jot of 3rd Sikh Guru, Shri Guru Amar Das Ji, Guru Ram Das Ji got the Guru Gaddi and became 4th Sikh Guru. Before that, Guru Ji’s name was “Bhai Jetha Ji”. Later changed to Guru Ram Das Ji by Guru Amar Das Ji.

Guru Ram Das Ji was a guru with so much politeness, insane spirit of service and devotion. These qualities were in Guruji since from birth; however Guruji’s life wasn’t easy. You’re going to be amaze – as we will tell you – the great and inspiring story of Shri Guru Ram Das Ji, today. Let’s start from the beginning.

Guru Ram Das Ji was Born

On 24 September, 1534 in the Chuna Mandi at Lahore. Guruji’s parents were Shri Haridas Ji (Father) and Mata Daya Kaur Ji (Mother). Guru Ram Das Ji was born into a Khatri (Sodhi) family; However everything wasn’t good forever.

In the age of 7 years, Guruji’s parents died and whole responsibility of his younger brother and sister, came to Guruji’s shoulders.

Life

After the death of parents in this little age, Guruji’s life changed. Guru Ram Das Ji’s maternal grandmother (Naani) took him and his two siblings to Basarke, Amritsar. There, Guruji met Shri Guru Amar Das Ji.

Guruji used to sell boiled gram to support his family. When Guru Amar Das Ji get to know this, he went to Guruji’s house to give sympathy to his family. Guru Amar Das Ji offered them to come at Goindwal in order to help. After that, Guruji with his family shifted to Goindwal.

Since Goindwal was still establishing, Bhai Jetha Ji did the Seva in the development work. Whatever Guru Amar Das Ji told Bhai Jetha Ji to do, he did it with pure respect and devotion. Guruji also sold boiled grams to support his family.

When there was talk of marriage of Guru Amar Das Ji’s daughter Bibi Bhani Ji, then after hearing the qualities of a suitable groom for her, Guru Amar Das Ji considered Bhai Jetha Ji suitable. After marriage they requested Guru Amar Das Ji that they want to remain close to him and do Seva. Guru Amar Das Ji accept that request and Bhai Jetha Ji with Bibi Bhani Ji served Guru Amar Das Ji whole their life.

Guru Gaddi

 In 1574, Guru Amar Das Ji trusted Bhai Jetha Ji with Guru Gaddi of 1st Guru, Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

Bhai Jetha’s devotion, nature and service moved Guru Amar Das Ji. He found Bhai Jetha Ji the most suitable nominee of Guru Gaddi. Because, Bhai Jetha Ji had all the qualities to be trusted with it and also passed all the tasks given by Guru Amar Das Ji (designed to test the worthy nominee).

Writings

Guru Ram Das Ji composed 638 Shabads (Hymns) and 30 different Indian classical music notes (raags). The Hymns were register in Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Moreover, Guruji also pronounced 4 Lawaan (in Suhi Mohalla 4, Guru Granth Sahib) which are recite while marriage in Sikh culture.

Guru Ram Das Ji: Jyoti Jyot

After spreading the message of “Sikhi” and devoting his life to service and good works towards God and people of world. Guru Ram Das Ji passed away from this material world (at age of 47 years) after trusting the Guru Gaddi to his youngest son Shri Guru Arjan Dev Ji.
