Shri Guru Angad Dev Ji

Shri Guru Angad Dev Ji is the 2nd Sikh Guru. Before Guru Nanak Dev Ji trusted Guru Angad Dev Ji with “Guru Gaddi”, Guru Angad Dev Ji was a disciple and devotee of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

Guru Angad Dev Ji served Guru Nanak Dev Ji with devotion. Guru Nanak Dev Ji chose Guru Angad Dev Ji the next Guru by his self-less and devoted services.

Birth

On the date of 31st March, 1504 Sri Guru Angad Dev ji was born, Harike in Amritsar. Moreover, Guruji’s name was not Guru “Angad Dev” Ji; it was “Bhai Lehna Ji”.

However, after Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji transferred the Guru Gaddi, he changed Guruji’s name to Guru Angad Dev Ji.

Life

Guruji devoted his whole life to spread ideas and beliefs of Sikhism. Guru Angad Dev Ji developed the Gurmukhi script further. Guruji’s wife name was Bibi Khivi Ji. Bibi Khivi Ji had very good nature and she liked to serve and help people. Thus, she always did the Seva (self-less service) in langars.

Moreover, Guruji established a Goindwal city – Now in Tarn Taran, Punjab. Further, Guru Angad Dev Ji built schools in which Gurumukhi was taught. Guru Ji also built Akhara (Wrestling area) to promote physical development where now Gurudwara “Mal Akhara Sahib” is, in Khadur Sahib.

Writings

Shri Guru Angad Dev Ji wrote 63 shabads, and are register in Shri Guru Granth Sahib.    

Jyoti Jyot (Death)

On 29th March, 1552 in the age of 48 years. Before Jyoti Jyot, Guruji transferred the responsibility of Guru Gaddi to Shri Guru Amar Das Ji (3rd Sikh Guru).

Conclusion

To sum up, Guru ji devoted his whole life in the development and growth of Sikhism. Shri Guru Angad Dev ji was truly a devotee to Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji and did Seva all his life. Waheguru Ji.
